Col. Washington Bowie

Col. Washington Bowie died Monday morning at his home, Baltimore, aged about 78 years.

Col. Bowie, who was born at Roseneath, Montgomery county, was made deputy surveyor of the Port of Baltimore in 1888, and has since resided there. For the past ten years he has been a librarian of the Fidelity and Deposit Company, of Baltimore. In 1870 he married Miss Nettie Schley, daughter of the late Col. Geo. Schley. He received his commission as colonel on the staff of the late Governor Bowie. Col. Bowie has been in ill health for the past two years.

He is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Franklin P. Canby, of Hagerstown; two sons, Washington Bowie, Colonel of the Fifth Maryland Regiment, and Donald MacAlpin Bowie, of Rockville, and six grandsons and two granddaughters.
